Having fleas doesn’t mean your home is dirty or that you did anything wrong.
Western Oregon has plenty of wildlife and neighborhood animals. Raccoons, opossums, feral cats and other animals can bring fleas into yards and shared spaces. Even well-cared-for pets in clean homes can pick them up.
We help customers with flea problems all the time. We’ll talk you through a practical approach for your pet, home and the places outside where fleas may be developing.
We carry Frontline Plus, Advantage II and other familiar flea-control products, along with more affordable alternatives and natural-minded choices. We can help you compare what each product does and find a practical fit for your pet.

Not every product covers the same parasites or is suitable for every pet. We can help you compare dog vs. cat formulas, age and weight requirements, ingredients and price. Natural products also need to be used according to their labels.
Most of the flea population is developing off your pet. That's why treating only the fleas you can see may not be enough.
Fall from pets into bedding, rugs and resting areas.
Develop in sheltered areas away from bright light.
Stay protected inside cocoons until adults emerge.
Find a host, feed and start the cycle again.
EGGS → LARVAE → PUPAE → ADULTS → MORE EGGS
A flea problem is rarely just the fleas you can see on the dog or cat. Eggs and developing fleas are in the places the animal spends time, so our practical approach is to break the cycle from every direction.
Choose an appropriately labeled dog or cat product for the animal's age and weight. We carry familiar name brands as well as lower-cost options, and we can help compare the active ingredients instead of shopping by the logo alone.
Wash bedding and vacuum the places pets sleep, carpets, furniture and cracks. For an established infestation, a properly labeled home product with an insect growth regulator can help stop eggs and larvae from becoming the next wave.
Focus on the shady, protected places the pet actually uses—under decks, porches, shrubs, dog houses and resting areas. Blanket-spraying a sunny lawn usually misses where fleas develop.
New adults can keep emerging from protected cocoons for weeks. If the big established fleas disappear and you only see an occasional newly emerged flea that is quickly killed, the cycle may be moving in the right direction. Keep the pet protected and keep cleaning the environment while the old population burns out.
Important: use only products labeled for the species, age and weight. Never use a dog-only flea product on a cat.
Keeping up with parasite control is an important part of caring for your animals. Spring and fall are handy reminders to check whether it’s time to worm.
